Actors practiced building on each other's ideas through a game called "The Machine". One actor began the game play as the first part of the machine, and other actors built off of that idea by adding other parts of the machine that connected. Students watched a video of other students playing the game to learn the details of the game play.
The first principle of improv is to accept each other's ideas (just say YES!). To truly accept someone else's idea, you not only listen and agree to their idea, but you also work to make their idea sound really great. 3rd grade students practiced this concept with a game called "Rumors".
Middleton actors learn tips on working together as they play "Shapes" and create objects/pictures as a troupe team.
Second grade students practiced working together in their troupes (acting groups) through an activity called "Circle Mirror". With focus and teamwork, the goal was to look like a mirror image of each other.
