National Core Arts Standards

The Middleton Arts Team uses the National Core Arts Standards to guide their instruction. These standards focus on four core arts categories: Creating, Performing, Responding, and Connecting​. More information on these standards can be found at http://www.nationalartsstandards.org/ 

Below are the priority standards in drama for grades 1st-5th.
1st Grade Priority Standards:

Creating
TH:Cr2-1.b. Participates in group decision making in a guided drama experience (e.g., process drama, story drama, creative drama)

Performing
DA:Pr6.1.1a. Dances in a space where audience is separate from performers

Responding
TH:Re9.1.1. b. Identifies technical elements in a guided drama experience (e.g., process drama, story drama, creative drama) 

2nd Grade Priority Standards:

Creating
TH:Cr1.1.2.c. Identifies ways to use voice/sound to create or retell a story

Performing
TH:Pr5.1.2.b.Explores technical elements in a guided drama experience

Performing
TH:Pr6.1.2.a. Contributes to group guided drama experiences and performs w/peers

3rd Grade Priority Standards:

Creating
TH:Cr1.1.3.a. Create roles, imagined worlds, and improvised stories in a drama/theatre work

Performing
TH:Pr6.1.3 Practices drama/theatre work and shares reflections with others

Performing
TH:Pr5.1.3b. Identify the basic technical elements that can be used in drama/theatre work

Connecting
TH:Cn11.2.3.a. Explore how stories are adapted from literature to drama/theatre work

4th Grade Priority Standards:

Creating
TH:Cr3.1.4.a. Revises improv/scripted work through repetition and collaborative review

Creating
TH:Cr1.1.4. Visualizes and designs technical elements in a drama/theatre work 

Performing
TH:Pr4.1.4.b. Makes physical choices to develop a character in a drama/theatre work

Performing
TH:Pr6.1.4. a. Shares small-group drama/theatre work, with peers as audience

Responding
TH:Re7.1.4.a. Identifies artistic choices made in a drama by participation/observation


5th Grade Priority Standards:

Creating
TH:Cr.1.1.5.b. Propose design ideas that support the story and given circumstances in a drama/theatre work

Creating
TH:Cr3.1.5.a. Revises improvised/scripted work through repetition and self-review

Creating
TH:Cr3.1.5.b. Explores voice and body to develop character in a drama/theatre work

Performing
TH:Pr6.1.5.a. Presents drama/theatre work informally to an audience
